TL;DR
- CIG launches Tech-Preview #3 of TTK/TDD rebalancing (shields, armor, damage): everything tested in TP2 is canceled and replaced with far more extreme values, testable tonight and through tomorrow on the Tech-Preview channel.
- Major community controversy: the "Nine Tails Shogun" pack and its exclusive ATLS IKTI Akuma inflame Spectrum and Reddit, accused of pay-to-win and breaking a CIG promise.
- Persistent bugs heavily discussed: the "Retrieve" button still grayed out in 4.10.1, finicky hangars, and cargo deliveries refusing to validate.
- Community datamining confirms (and corrects) some of Tech-Preview #3's figures, notably on the damage modifier applied to AI.
- 💰 Verse in numbers: 821 K$ collected yesterday (total 1,046 M$).
🔧 Patch notes and official CIG announcements
Alpha 4.10.1 (Orison Relief Support) has been LIVE since yesterday, build 4.10.1-LIVE.12650677, with long-term persistence preserved and 20,000 aUEC starting balance for new accounts. This version closes 37 issues, 16 of which were reported via the Issue Council, targeting primarily what could ruin an entire session: contract cargo appearing in the wrong place, vehicles stuck at ASOP terminals, freight elevators freezing mid-transfer, and several exploits fixed. CIG also lists 3 client crashes and 2 server crashes addressed in this patch. The full patch notes thread remains open, and Hotfix Central continues centralizing fixes released outside the normal cycle.
In this context, CIG published, via the Vehicles team, a Q&A on the Aegis Sabre Raven EX and Argo ATLS IKTI Akuma (covered in French by Wormhole Tribune), to explain the design choices of the two vehicles accompanying this patch.
Tech-Preview #3: TTK/TDD rebalancing
The most substantial piece of the day is the announcement of the third Tech-Preview on ship destruction time (TTK) and component destruction time (TDD), open on the Tech-Preview channel, US servers only, for tonight and at least Friday's day. CIG first recalls what TP2 showed: generally positive reception, but criticism over reduced shield HP and increased absorption (which unintentionally favored ballistic weapons), TTK still judged too short for small and medium ships, contradictory feedback on large ships and capitals, and success in reducing shield regeneration time and "slap down" duration.
Stated objectives for TP3: refocus balancing on shields (2/3 of combat time should be spent destroying shields), continue tuning energy versus ballistic weapons, refine "slap down" times, increase TTK in PVP while keeping it low in PVE, and extend TTK for large ships and capitals. Unless otherwise noted, all previous changes are canceled. Here are the main adjustments for this iteration:
- Shield HP increased by 134% to 212% depending on ships.
- Armor HP adjusted: -30% for small ships, up to +96% for capitals.
- Alpha damage of all weapons increased by 145%.
- Armor deflection against energy damage raised accordingly (+145%).
- Armor deflection against ballistic damage increased by 80%.
- Shield resistance: 40 to 50% against ballistic and 35 to 45% against energy, depending on shield HP and power pip distribution.
- Shield absorption against ballistic: 0 to 80% depending on shield HP.
- "Slap down" time increased by 100% when shield is damaged, 70% when destroyed (30% less than TP2 in the latter case).
- Shield regeneration increased by 95%, with a fix for a bug that caused multi-face shield ships to recharge 4 times too fast.
- New AI modifier in PVE: AI ships take 40% additional damage.
CIG acknowledges these values seem extreme on paper, but explains the constraint comes from ship critical components, whose HP cannot yet be easily adjusted due to lack of proper tools. To meet the "2/3 of combat on shield" objective, shield and armor HP had to be increased significantly, then alpha damage proportionally to maintain low TTK. Only one heavy known issue is reported for this build: ships skip the soft death phase and explode directly at 0 critical HP instead of powering down.

💬 Spectrum: synthesis of most-discussed topics
The general forum is boiling today with fairly uniform anger: the "Nine Tails Shogun" pack and its exclusive ATLS IKTI Akuma dominate the highest-voted threads by far, in an atmosphere oscillating between indignation and weariness. In the background, a bluntly titled thread, Community Goodwill is Running Out (178 votes, 80 replies), serves as a barometer for this mood, with no official CIG response visible so far.
Anger over the IKTI Akuma and pay-to-win
The thread crystallizing the most votes today is It wasn't enough to sell the only thing that could only be earned in game (325 votes, 173 replies): players blame CIG for selling an even more heavily armed variant of the ATLS IKTI, an item previously obtainable only in-game. The debate directly joins Itki was supposed to be not for sale, no? (232 votes) and Most uncool move CIG, P2win embarrassment (217 votes), where players report that CIG publicly promised never to put this item in the shop. Another thread directly reopens Chris Roberts on pay-to-win! (86 votes) to confront the founder's past statements with today's sale, while Listen, Marketing literally said in the Q&A this sale is a social experiment! (140 votes) and Locking stuff behind warbond bundles puts a bad taste in my mouth (138 votes) broaden criticism to warbond bundle practices in general. One post escalates further, claiming that PVE activities are so boring CIG starts selling the reward (again) (129 votes), arguing monetization fills a gameplay void rather than the reverse. Worth noting, a community thread points out a specific detail of the new bundle on which opinions remain divided without official confirmation.
A more measured, even enthusiastic counterpoint
Not all threads are accusatory: Good IKTI FAQ (72 votes) attempts to calmly clarify what the pack actually contains, while Thanks for making the ikti available without wikelo and THANKYOU THANKYOU THANKYOU - CiG for the Ikti Geo! instead praise the possibility of obtaining the base version without committing to a specific game mode. ATLS IKTI Akuma, wow. (24 votes) and Concierge appreciation post: The new bundle is great, more please! fully embrace their enthusiasm for the new equipment. The patch itself also garners recognition in Patch notes appreciation (36 votes), proof that the commercial controversy doesn't erase all positive sentiment for the day.
Bugs and technical frustrations
On the technical side, 4.10.1 is a joke (26 votes) and Hull C, the neverending story of "we do not care!" extend weariness already visible on Reddit facing persistent bugs. A heavily engaged thread, Sabre Raven, LTI or no? Just tell us. (91 votes, 104 replies), simply demands a clear CIG answer on the ship's lifetime insurance status, illustrating a need for communication more than technical fixes.
💬 Reddit r/starcitizen (by theme, general sentiment)
The mood on r/starcitizen follows the same fault line as Spectrum, but with more dark humor and supporting screenshots. General sentiment remains critical on commercial and technical fronts, tempered by a few moments of community tenderness and the usual dose of self-deprecation typical of the subreddit.
The echo of IKTI and pay-to-win issues
The thread crystallizing the most sentiment is The intent is to provide players with a sense of pride and accomplishment which nods, in a wink to the famous EA reply, to the feeling that monetization trumps gameplay rewards. I too want to rant about the IKTI bundle. and The way CIG go accuse CIG of circumventing its promise never to sell the ATLS IKTI by offering it in a slightly modified form, a topic also crossing Spectrum via The Way CIG go. This same concern for consistency drives So the Hermes can't get Apollo paints, but the Sabre Raven can get a Sabre's paints?, which compares treatment of different ships regarding paint options.
A real convergence point between both platforms concerns a 3D model bug spotted on the new Sabre Raven EX. Yeah they did spend some effort right? explains that destroying the Raven EX reveals the old Sabre Raven model underneath, wing number and rear strut included, suggesting the new ship is actually just a skin over the previous one.
A player illustrates the controversy surrounding the new Sabre Raven version (9/17).
Persistent bugs and technical weariness
The bug theme remains central: Most Important Thing (Hangars) Still Broken and Vehicle Retrieve Button Greyed Out Bug - still not fixed 4.10.1 both report that the vehicle retrieval button remains grayed out despite the announced fix in patch notes. Ugh Cargo AGAIN describes a cargo delivery that never validates the contract despite multiple attempts, and Im convinced they dont fix bugs so they can keep calling this an alpha sums up ambient frustration. An unconfirmed account, in Why do people even bother with Spectrum?, claims that a thread reporting this same "Retrieve" button bug would have been deleted within minutes on the official forum, though this cannot be independently verified. On a more technical register, Feedback about the PVE enemies taking 40% more damage in Tech Preview reacts directly to the AI modifier in Tech-Preview #3 detailed above, judged "arcade" by its author.
Illustration of a post criticizing the aesthetic choice of the backpack included in the IKTI pack (9/17).
Community moments and humor
The subreddit also keeps its lighter, creative side, more typical of Reddit than Spectrum: I guess we got NPC Crews humorously describes discovering a phantom crew after capturing his Idris, the clad is glad and Raven EX pirate build? 2 lasers & 2 distortion fuel theorycrafting around the new ships, and Got a Buddy to play SC for the first time offers a softer moment about a newcomer discovering the game. No more video's? laments the absence of a "Behind the ship" video for the two new vehicles, replaced with a simple short format. Finally, Never Surrender and That's where it went... complete the day's screenshots and memes, in the same vein as I'm doing my part!.
🕵️ Leaks & Datamining
Unofficial content from community datamining: subject to change, never confirmed by CIG.
Players compared LIVE values against actual Tech-Preview #3 files (shared in a detailed spreadsheet), and extracted figures broadly confirm the official announcement while adding nuance. On armor, the Stingray would still retain values from before the latest hotfix, and the Raven EX would have no armor deflection in this test build. Extracted data indicates an average HP increase of only +1% once all ship sizes are weighted (ranging from -30% to +96% by size class, the Idris being the extreme case at the high end), a physical deflection average of +80% and energy of +146%.
On shields, average weighted HP would jump +137%, regeneration +95% for sizes 1 and 2 but drop -51% for "bubble" shields sizes 3 and 4, a point not standing out from the official announcement. Ballistic damage absorption would shift from a maximum of 45% to 80%, minimum remaining at 0%. For weapons, the 145% alpha damage increase would apply to all except Idris and Tiburon lasers.
Most notable finding from this verification: patch notes mention an AI modifier of +40% damage "applied to all damage types," but game files would actually only apply it to energy damage, a gap between the announcement and actual implementation remaining to be confirmed by CIG.
