TL;DR

🔧 Patch notes and official CIG announcements

Alpha 4.10.2 goes LIVE

After a maintenance window of approximately four hours, CIG deployed Alpha Patch 4.10.2 to the LIVE environment (build 12881860), with long-term persistence preserved and 20,000 aUEC starting capital for new accounts. The three main focus areas highlighted by the studio are the RSI Discovery Month, the Constellation Mk IV reaching Gold Standard, and a physical object network overhaul, accompanied by experimental VR updates.

On the stability front, this patch closes 71 bugs and 5 stability issues since 4.10.1, including several exploits. Among the notable fixes:

13 of these fixes come directly from Issue Council reports, each linked to its original report.

The Constellation Mk IV reaches Gold Standard

The complete Mk IV series (Andromeda, Aquila, Phoenix, Taurus) receives a comprehensive overhaul:

Render of the Constellation Mk V Centaurus landed The new Constellation Mk V Centaurus, revealed with Alpha 4.10.2 going LIVE (10/09).

Physical object network overhaul

The network code governing the behavior of free physical objects (cargo crates, grenades, throwables) has been completely rewritten. Previously, the client treated the state transmitted by the server as either entirely correct or entirely wrong, causing persistent desynchronization, rubber-banding, and objects that would slide or bounce without apparent reason. The new system calculates a confidence score on the received state rather than applying it unconditionally: confidence drops when the client has just performed an action the server doesn't yet know about, or when its state is outdated. Corrections now happen through velocity adjustments rather than teleportation, which only occurs as a last resort. Object throws and tractor beams follow the same logic: a dropped object actually leaves from the moment and location where it was released, rather than returning to its original pickup point.

Experimental VR updates

VR now has its own zoom feature, which works by tightening the field of view rather than changing the physical optics: a temporary solution while awaiting fully physicalized optics. It applies to interaction zoom, precision vehicle aiming, and firearm scopes, with an adjustment option for its intensity, and can be completely disabled.

RSI Discovery Month: a new event in Stanton

CIG launches, in place of the IASI event, the RSI Discovery Month, which celebrates the arrival of the new generation of Constellation with a series of missions split into three branches:

Players who complete the RSI Discovery Month rental contract receive five days of free access to the new Constellation Mk V Centaurus. A Digital Goodies Pack accompanies the event, with 15 new cosmetic items (outfits, weapons, paints, decor).

Surprise reveal: Constellation Mk V Centaurus and RSI Skylark

The Roadmap Roundup of October 9 confirms that the RSI Constellation Mk V Centaurus and RSI Skylark cards have just been added and marked as released, alongside the Discovery Month Event card and Mk IV Gold Standard. The Centaurus is presented as a multi-role vessel that reinvents RSI's classic for the new generation, with enlarged cargo hold and crew mess, more imposing turrets and missile racks, and a new docking port to accommodate the Skylark, a snub fighter designed specifically to fit within the Centaurus hull. An official video details the Skylark's docking from underneath the hull.

Also on the roadmap, two cards advance for Alpha 4.11: DGS Planet Subdivision, a technology that will allow fragmenting a planet into multiple territories spread across different servers (moved to Tentative status, with Nyx I as the first planet affected), and the cards for Nyx I, Nyx II, and Nyx III, updated with new images.

📧 Emails

What CIG sent to its subscribers this week: a summary of the RSI Discovery Month, with its missions and rewards, a reminder of the first episode of "10 From the Community" and the latest Monthly Report, as well as a preview of the associated Digital Goodies Pack. The email also mentions a Monstertech x D-BOX collaboration presented at Frankfurt's SimRacing Expo, and October subscriber promotions (skeleton flair for Day of the Vara, Drake Pitbull).

🔭 Sneak Peek of the week

Sneak Peek

The newsletter's closing image shows what looks like a desert landscape, probably from Nyx I, accompanied by a terse caption: "The desert takes its due." Difficult to draw firm conclusions, the teaser deliberately enigmatic, but the ominous phrasing and the link to the planet whose roadmap was just updated today (see Patch notes) leave the door open to all sorts of speculation about what might await players there.

💬 Spectrum: summary of most discussed topics

The general forum buzzes today almost exclusively around the new Constellation Mk V Centaurus, between technical admiration and frank aesthetic reluctance, while a wave of nostalgia accompanies the retirement of the Mk IV. No official -CIG responses came to settle these debates during the observed period.

The Mk V Centaurus, between skepticism and curiosity

Constellation MK V ... why bother with the name? crystallizes the debate with 78 votes and 104 replies: part of the community feels the new ship strays too far from the Constellation DNA to deserve the name. Every RSI ship now just looks like a shrunk Polaris. extends the aesthetic criticism, while CIG, would it be possible to move the Connie Mk5's fins closer to the hull, please? targets more precisely the vessel's fins, deemed too far from the hull. New RSI ~not a Connie~ Centaur-us and Don't sunset the now perfectly fine Mk4. The Centaurus is a different ship, just don't call it a Constellation. (33 votes) join this line. Conversely, I do not understand the hate the Connie MKV is receiving defends the new design, and Fix the MKV's fins; they look cool if used correctly. nuances by suggesting a simple adjustment rather than abandoning the style. Lighter in tone, Skylark = Jimothy and PSA : Connie MKV accompany the discovery of the new snub fighter with humor.

Thanks and farewell to the Mk IV

THANK YOU for doing right by the Constellations. (31 votes) and Connie Phoenix Mk IV's Gold Pass Thoughts from a Connie Lover (40 votes) praise the Mk IV's Gold Standard overhaul, while Thank you for the memories (70 votes) takes a more elegiac tone to celebrate twelve years of memories attached to the vessel. CiG, please STOP with the Mk2 BS. and CIG, if you say you will FULLY update and support Mk IV forever, then why stop selling it? (19 votes) instead express a certain weariness at the pace of hull iterations.

A little humor and everyday comfort

Please stop filling ships with POOL TABLES. (86 votes, 50 replies) pokes fun at the accumulation of non-functional decorative furniture in new vessels, echoing the rearranged VIP spaces of the Mk IV. Most of us didn't pledge for ships to become "classics" or "not the newest or flashiest". (79 votes) extends the reflection on the perceived obsolescence of older ships. On the practical side, How about a heads up next time you delete a ship? requests a warning before any ship deletion from the hangar, and when are we finally fixing persistence through patches? relaunches the eternal question of account persistence between patches.

In the background, Squadron 42

5-hour game play session, 2 hours of cut scenes. relays a more critical reading of today's playtest (detailed in Squadron 42 section), pointing out a proportion of cinematics deemed too high, while SQ42 expectations and reality attempts to put the ambient enthusiasm in perspective against the community's long-held expectations.

💬 Reddit r/starcitizen (by theme, general sentiment)

The sub is living an electric day, split between the emotion of the very first external playtest of Squadron 42 and the surprise revelation of the Mk V Centaurus. The atmosphere mixes genuine enthusiasm for what was seen in Manchester and a very lively aesthetic debate on the new vessel, in direct continuity with Spectrum discussions.

Squadron 42: the first impressions arrive

My impressions after 5 hours of playing Squadron 42 at the Manchester event opens the discussion with a detailed account: two groups of about 65 people each, five hours of uninterrupted gameplay except for a short visit from Mark Hamill, visuals described as "absolutely fantastic." Mark Hamill is at the Sq42 test event confirms the actor's presence via a photo. Impressions after 5h + of SQ42, here are my thoughts relays the testimony of a long-time backer, without intent to dramatize. Hugo Lisoir SQ42 Playtest Report (French CC) is one of the most detailed: intro replayed in full (1h10) then 3h50 of unseen content, no crashes but a few minor bugs, and the judgment that the game won't "certainly be ready for November," with still five to six months of fixes needed. SQ42 CC Notes so far, per Pipeline (Thanks Aria!) compiles observations from several creators: animations and graphics deemed far superior to Star Citizen, native 4K rendering at 60 fps, and another SQ42 playtest review like I just played Squadron 42 : Enderprize add other voices to the pile of testimonies.

The tone is not unanimously laudatory: Sq42 is "the best walking simulator I've ever played, not enough gameplay" Boredgamer, via TenPoundFortyTwo relays a more reserved view on the actual amount of gameplay, and "I really enjoyed my time with it. It is not ready for release..." tempers general enthusiasm by reminding that the game remains, by the admission of those present, still improvable. New Squadron 42 footage from outside the studio ! and And so it begins... Wish me luck... document the atmosphere outside CIG's Manchester offices, while Sq42 conversely expresses some perplexity at the emphasis on invited influencers rather than regular players.

The Mk V Centaurus joins the debate

Whichever CIG ship designer is obsessed with adding unnecessary fins to otherwise beautiful ships needs to be stopped... sets the critical tone echoed by Fix the MKV's fins; they look cool if used correctly., which illustrates its point with an image of the vessel:

The Constellation Mk V's fins, highlighted by part of the community A player illustrates his criticism of the new Mk V's fins (09/10).

Connie Mk5 looks like a mini Polaris and Connie Mk V looks like a mini Polaris both compare the new design to RSI's capital ship. Connie Mk V Size Comparison to Mk IV and Starlancer documents the extent of the size gain versus its predecessors, and Old vs New shares a comparison that ends up, through its author's comments, convincing them:

Comparison between the old Constellation Taurus and the new Mk V Centaurus A player compares the old Taurus and new Centaurus before changing his mind in its favor (09/10).

Phoenix MK IV Gold Pass (they did more than expected) also praises the Phoenix's VIP rearrangement (hot tub, dual bathroom, open cockpit), and Thank you for the memories extends, on Reddit, the tribute to the Mk IV already observed on Spectrum.

Small curiosities of the day

We got Jimothy in game before SQD 42 or GTA VI jokes about the new nickname given to the Skylark by the community, and 10 years ago, the Sandworm video was revealed at CitizenCon. marks, not without irony regarding the state of the game's elevators, the ten-year anniversary of the famous demonstration video.

💬 Discord: what's circulating on community servers

Outside CIG's Manchester offices, a Squadron 42 billboard was filmed by a witness on site, during today's external playtest, with a notable improvement in skin shaders and details noted by community relays:

Squadron 42 billboard filmed in front of CIG Manchester offices (09/10).

News channels also widely served as relays for the official announcements detailed above (LIVE rollout, RSI Discovery Month, Mk V Centaurus and Skylark reveal), as well as the first field notes on the Squadron 42 playtest, expanded in a dedicated section below.

🎖️ Squadron 42

The very first external playtest of the solo campaign, hinted at by rumor in our edition yesterday, indeed took place today in CIG's Manchester offices. According to accounts gathered on Reddit, approximately 65 players and creators gathered in several groups (including BoredGamer, Morph, and Sulyce according to one participant) were able to play about five hours straight, each on their own PC, with a surprise visit from Mark Hamill during the session. No official CIG announcement confirms these details in today's collected sources: these are exclusively testimonies from invited players and creators, to be treated as such.

The feedback, very abundant, is globally enthusiastic on technical and visual grounds. Citizen Spooner, after 14 years following the project, delivers detailed impressions on storytelling, piloting, ground combat, bugs encountered, and performance. More detailed notes, shared in community channels and attributed to Camak, Hugo Lisoir, and Citizen Spooner, describe, according to these unconfirmed testimonies:

Hugo Lisoir SQ42 Playtest Report (French CC) reports replaying the intro in full (1h10) before discovering 3h50 of unseen content, without a single crash, and concludes the game won't "certainly be ready for November," estimating still five to six months of fixes needed, the bulk of remaining work being bug cleanup rather than missing content. A more measured tone also emerges: Sq42 is "the best walking simulator I've ever played, not enough gameplay" relays a BoredGamer opinion finding actual gameplay too limited against walking and dialogue sequences, and a testimony relayed under ExpatBrat sums up the general atmosphere as a compromise: much enjoyment had, but a game "not ready for release," each having encountered their own little quirks.

To be taken with due caution: none of these elements, however detailed, constitute an announcement or confirmation from CIG. These are player and creator testimonies, gathered hot from the exit of a private event, and may only represent part of the finished game's actual experience.

🕵️ Leaks & Datamining

Unofficial content from community datamining: subject to change, never confirmed by CIG.

Alpha 4.10.2 going LIVE was immediately combed over by dataminers, who extract significantly more detailed information than official announcements on new ships and their rewards.

RSI Discovery Month reward descriptions and tiers

A record of client files details the reward tiers for each of the event's three branches:

The same files confirm that all mentions of the old IASI event have been replaced with "RSI Discovery Month," and that Wikelo's Constellation Taurus reward quest now delivers the Gold Standard version of the ship. A dataminer also unearthed the complete marketing descriptions, not revealed by CIG beyond the Centaurus and Skylark, of the two other Mk V variants to come: the Aquila, exploration-oriented with individual cabins and a rank-three medical bed, and the Taurus, cargo-oriented.

New paints and collectibles

Many new liveries accompany the release of the Mk V and Skylark, here's an overview:

Constellation Mk V paint catalog Catalog of new Constellation Mk V paints, spotted by dataminers (09/10).

RSI Skylark paint catalog Catalog of new RSI Skylark snub fighter paints (09/10).

The Mk IV also gets new shades (Starwalker, False Colors, High Roller, Exploration, Disco, Electric Blue, Shocking Blue, Emerald, UEE Distinguished Service), and several other vessels (Aurora Mk II, Hermes, Ursa, Zeus) inherit liveries tied to event rewards. On the collectibles side, a "Shipment" crate, scale models of the Mk IV Andromeda and Mk V Centaurus Gold, an interactive Aurora Mk II model with foldable wings, and a commemorative coin of the Mk V were also spotted in the game's files.

On the Genesis Evocati technical test side

A second Evocati test of the Genesis planetary rework (Planet Tech V5) took place in the evening, with emphasis on terrain, vegetation, and Nyx I server stability. Dataminers took the opportunity to catalog several objects still without official names, presumably tied to future rewards or the Luminaria event:

M3A, M4A, and M5A reward variants spotted by dataminers M3A, M4A, and M5A reward variants, still without official names (09/10).

None of this has been confirmed by CIG: these elements come exclusively from files extracted by the community and could still change, disappear, or never release as shown.
