TL;DR

🔧 Patch notes and official CIG announcements

On the version numbering front, nothing new: the PTU remains on Wave 3 of Alpha 4.10.2 and Live on Alpha 4.10.1. The studio's attention has been directed elsewhere today, toward a far more structural undertaking than the next patch.

Genesis (Planet Tech V5): first contact with Nyx I

CIG opened late in the day (October 2-3, US night time) an Evocati test under standard NDA dedicated to Genesis, the new planetary generation and rendering pipeline, also called Planet Tech V5. This test is strictly limited to Nyx I: no other planet or moon has yet been converted to this new system.

The studio emphasizes one critical technical point: only Vulkan works correctly on this build, DirectX 11 having been removed from the test due to rendering issues with the new terrain. CIG recommends starting from a clean user.cfg file to avoid any configuration conflicts.

What Genesis changes, according to CIG's description:

CIG sets two very specific objectives for this test. On the server side, the goal is to stress-test the planetary tile activation system (the "WorldBuilder" V5) by asking testers to spread out across the planet, stay in motion, and frequently change altitude. On the client side, expected feedback focuses on four points: distance and density (pop-in, LOD transitions, vegetation density that might seem abnormal), physical collisions with terrain (landing a ship, driving, walking, crashing), and pure performance (framerate, frame time, stutters, especially during fast, low-altitude flight, the most demanding for data streaming).

The studio specifies that this version of Nyx I is intentionally empty: no locations, no missions, no NPCs have been added yet, the test focusing on terrain technology rather than content. A ground vehicle is needed to conduct ground collision tests. CIG also acknowledges that visual polish work and VRAM consumption reduction for Genesis are still underway.

As always with an NDA test, the precise in-game content cannot be detailed here: see the Leaks & Datamining section for what nonetheless circulated.

📧 Emails

What CIG sent to its subscribers this week:

Weekly Update: Alpha 4.10.1 Continues. The weekly newsletter updates on the Orison repair event, still ongoing on Alpha 4.10.1: 14 new contracts are available to help rebuild Crusader's floating city after damage caused by the Nine Tails gang, including resource gathering and medical supply delivery. Citizens participating are rewarded with event-themed armor and weapons. The email also reminds that time is running short for two offers: the Nine Tails Shogun Pack and the Aegis Sabre Raven EX both enter their final days of availability.

🔭 This Week's Sneak Peek

Sneak Peek RSI Skylark, captioned simply "Out for a lark" (October 2).

The image, deliberately enigmatic as each week, shows an RSI Skylark in full flight above an open landscape, with no additional context. The teasing is total: no indication of a new variant, future event, or mere stylistic illustration. To be taken, as always, with the caution that befits a deliberately mysterious Sneak Peek: the community has already seized on it on Reddit (see the Reddit section) to try to guess its meaning.

💬 Spectrum: synthesis of most discussed topics

The forum is living a three-speed day: a ravenous curiosity about the Genesis test that no one can talk about, persistent fatigue around game access lock-in, and an ongoing Constellation saga that continues to grow without any official voice addressing it.

"Lift the NDA!": frustration over Genesis

The highest-voted thread of the day, Genesis Tech-Preview under NDA? Please lift it! (222 votes, 74 replies), calls on CIG to finally allow the community to share impressions about the new planetary engine, as rumors of the test have been circulating for several days. The enthusiasm is manifest, but for now only NDA testers are authorized to speak, which fuels general impatience.

Game access lock-in, still working out kinks

A week after it took effect, the mechanism continues to stumble on edge cases. Example for Protected Pledges Not Working for Me and protected game package question describe accounts where the promised protection isn't applying as expected. Do not LOCK game access packages until post IAE. actually calls for a delay in lock-in until after the Intergalactic Aerospace Expo, giving players time to know what they're buying before freezing their choice. Why lock SQ42 now? and Until we can play SQ42, it shouldn't be locked on our account contest the principle of lock-in applied to an unreleased game, while more practical questions circulate on the entire update to gifting and access rules, on the fate of buy-back tokens, or on the choice between keeping the pledge on VIP access or switching it to a ship. The case of Concierge members owning the standard edition of the game continues to fuel a dedicated thread.

The Mk1/Mk2 saga continues to grow

Owners of Mk1 ships should either be given the Mk2 for free, or given an option to entirely refund the Mk1. breaks the 240-vote barrier with 165 replies, still with no official response. The debate branches out: A question to CIG: Why not offer MK+1 upgrades to owners of the older version? (125 votes) poses the question more broadly for any future Mk generation, MK 2 ships and the unknown..... worries about the murk surrounding these overhauls, and The Mk X treatment, and how it has changed how I look at my fleet. (162 votes) steps back to consider what these waves of refits change in players' relationship to their fleet. On the Constellation Mk V specifically, About Connie mk5 Modularity ... speculation and Mk V modularity? speculate on possible modular architecture, The new Connie Mk V won't matter if it flies like a waterlogged boat tempers enthusiasm by noting that everything depends on flight behavior, and Connie Phoenix MKV has me more excited than any other ship in the game fully embraces total enthusiasm. What happens to the Previous Connie special paints ? worries about the fate of special paints obtained on the older version.

Weariness and miscellaneous requests

In the background, A reminder: Event hype and the actual game are two different things invites not to confuse event atmosphere with the game's actual state, a reminder that resonates with those who say they're a bit disheartened or who no longer expect flight model updates. CIG - Let me be a criminal! calls for more depth in criminal gameplay, Please remove the Wikelo mechanic requests removal of a mechanic deemed frustrating at this vendor, nuanced by I like Wikelo defending it. On more technical gameplay, Salvage with the Reclaimer is really depressing, especially in Stanton, Repairing is broken, Controll over Power pips should only be at enginering Terminal on big ships and Medical Gameplay and Death of a Spaceman each detail a specific friction point. Finally, Before IAE, we need this question answered. (57 votes) presses CIG to clarify a point before the major annual sale, and My first experience with star citizen offers a mixed perspective from a player discovering the game.

💬 Reddit r/starcitizen (by theme, general sentiment)

The sub's mood contrasts with Spectrum's: lighter, carried by excitement over Nyx I and a good dose of self-deprecation, though grumbling over the Mk1/Mk2 lineup and certain daily irritants remains present in the background.

Nyx I turns heads

Excitement over the Genesis test overflows on Reddit. Early Genesis Tech-Preview Notes and Final checks of a potential new Genesis Tech-Preview build for an Evocati Playtest (NDA) starting in a few hours announced the imminent launch of the test before it even began, driven by a contributor used to this kind of surveillance. Once the test launched, early feedback poured in: Nyx 1! shares a first visual glimpse, Nyx 1 being much bigger than current planets makes a lot of sense if they're also dividing the planet up into multiple servers. relays tester accounts that the planet would be significantly larger than anything currently existing, to the point that you couldn't fly fast enough to catch the sun, and Just watched my first sunset on Nyx I and got emotional testifies, more intimately, to a striking sunset on this new planet. None of this is confirmed by CIG: these are unverified accounts from NDA testers, to be taken as such.

Mk1/Mk2: echo of the Spectrum debate

The same debate as Spectrum continues here: New Mk versions should be free for existing owners details the fear of seeing a ship purchased for hundreds of dollars become abandoned the moment a Mk II drops, while Farewell Aurora Mk I - you were always my favorite ship. pays nostalgic homage to the game's very first ship, resonating with that same concern about the future of older versions.

Subscriber grumbling and disappointment

One reason I quit my sub... come on CIG, Jared and Olli, you can do better. and As a subscriber for years am I too entitled by being peeved about this? both express disappointment with CIG's subscription program, though the specifics of the grievance aren't explicit in either case. In counterpoint, Not Picking The Worst Picture to Drum Up Complaints pushes for more restraint in how the community illustrates its criticism.

The Sneak Peek already sparking talk

In direct echo of the Emails section, Weekly sneak peek already relays and comments on the image of the RSI Skylark "out for a lark" just published by CIG.

Verse life, gameplay, and good spirits

On the help and gameplay side, New player trying to figure out how to get the best out of my Drake Clipper., Stingray loaner?, Higher-end weapons in Pyro (a share of good tips for finding railguns and crossbows in Pyro deposits) and how do I get 800+ quality iron for enhanced MISC pods? illustrate the very practical daily lives of players. Never have I ever been more excited for a patch. celebrates in advance the long-awaited arrival of optical zoom in VR, and Clubbing Pirates At Their Headquarters tells a punitive trip to a pirate lair. On screenshots and creativity, The Atmosphere Is Looking Extra Thicc Today, Can't Say It's Not Photogenic, Anvil F8C Lightning Kotobukiya 1:100 and Introducing Art Gameplay by Ongo Gablogian each illustrate, in their own way, the creative and offbeat side of the sub.

A financial document highlighted, to be taken with caution

A rather isolated thread, "The planned releases of Sq42 and shortly thereafter SC 1.0" & "net assets £53.9m" & excerpt on a put option of CIG shareholders of Calder, relays excerpts from what looks like a financial document associated with Cloud Imperium Games' British subsidiaries. No specific date accompanies these excerpts, and this is in no way a CIG announcement: this thread remains merely a community relay of a document whose origin and current status are not established here.

💬 Discord: what circulates on the servers

The news channels mainly confirm the same two major topics of the day: the opening of the Evocati NDA test on Genesis, described in the same terms as the Patch Notes section, and the RSI Skylark Sneak Peek relayed as it dropped. Community channels also reshared MrKraken's video guide on game access lock-in (see Videos section). The rest of notable activity from the evening, Genesis test-related imagery and sound, filtered through leak channels: it's detailed in the Leaks & Datamining section below.

🎖️ Squadron 42

No official announcement on the solo campaign today, but community speculation picks up momentum. In a video highlighted above, creator GautSlayer suggests that renewed communication about Squadron 42 might be imminent, based on a test session announced for October 9-11 reserved for a small number of players, and on a recent letter from Cloud Imperium Games' president published on the official site. This is a creator's personal reading, not CIG confirmation: no release timeline is established by this video, which remains at the hypothesis stage.

In the same cautious spirit, a Reddit thread highlighted excerpts attributed to a financial document from CIG's British subsidiaries mentioning "the planned releases of Squadron 42 and, shortly thereafter, SC 1.0" (see Reddit section): without date or official confirmation, this mention remains at this stage a simple relay, not a calendar announcement. A more modest thread, PU or SQ42, asks the community about preferences between the two experiences, without providing new factual information.

🕵️ Leaks & Datamining

Unofficial content from community datamining: subject to change, never confirmed by CIG.

The launch of the Genesis test immediately triggered a wave of datamining and captures, essentially centered on Nyx I.

Nyx I: factions, locations, and hidden content

Datamining of the build mentions 10 sectors on Nyx I and 97 location archetypes (74 classified as "normal," 23 as "criminal"), spread among 10 factions: Civilians, Criminals, Rayari, People's Alliance, Shattered Blade, Covalex, First Legion, Foxwell, Moraine, and Shubin. Among them, First Legion appears as a wholly new faction. A system of procedurally-generated location names, organized by prefixes and suffixes specific to each faction, has also been spotted, though this doesn't allow deduction of the actual number of locations to come on the planet.

A new underground installation at Area 18, the Area 18 Municipal Works, has also been datamined: it would include a narrative mission in a prologue and three chapters (the last two would not yet be implemented), with locations ranging from an entrance hall to a centrifuge chamber via a server room, and a "ferry" system allowing traversal of a chasm within the installation itself. The prologue would consist of recovering the entrance hall, neutralizing First Legion members, and resetting access via sensor terminals.

The datamining also mentions new physical mission boards (personal contracts, Academy of Sciences, Interstellar Transport Guild, Mercenary Guild, United Resource Workers), with a ranking system ranging from Apprentice to Elite Contractor, as well as new creatures dubbed StarBugs (Beetle, Flea, Foldier, Fpitter, Stinger, Tick) and ground vehicle missions centered on a special edition Ursa Rover "Survey." Other noted elements: the Atlas vehicle platform would have been rebranded HM6 (the Anvil Ballista thus becoming the Anvil HM6 Ballista), a technical "NPC livestock" tag designed to make human NPCs react when a player kills their animals, and entries for a small ship Drake Marauder as well as a Kruger D10 Komet. Quest giver NPC Tessa Bannister would also make a return.

What testers shared despite the NDA

Some field observations nonetheless leaked into leak channels: Nyx I's atmosphere would peak at 62 km altitude, quantum jump would drop players at 50 km, jump exit points (OM) would be placed "very high" above the planet, and it would be impossible to fly fast enough to catch the sun. Images show orbital views of the planet as well as a vast desert area spotted on the ground. Two extracts from Nyx I's soundtrack also circulated: NYX_1_OST_1.mp3 and NYX_1_OST_2.mp3.

Constellation Mk4 Paints

On the sidelines of the planetary test, the same datamining build reveals new paints for the Constellation Mk4, including a conversion of the Emerald tint into a standalone paint, following a trend already observed on other ships over the past year.
