CIG has unveiled the RSI Constellation Mk V Centaurus and its embarked fighter, the Skylark, with a comm-link, a Q&A, a Behind the Ships video and an email to subscribers. An RSI Discovery Month mission offers a five-day free trial.
On October 14, CIG officially presented the RSI Constellation Mk V Centaurus and its snub fighter, the Skylark, through a dedicated comm-link, a Q&A with the vehicle and gameplay teams and a Behind the Ships video. An email to subscribers repeats the announcement and details the associated offers. The ship was already playable since Alpha 4.10.2, but this official communication clarifies its positioning.
A multi-role Constellation, more versatile than the Mk IV
According to CIG, the Centaurus is a multi-role evolution of the Constellation line. It combines heavy weaponry, substantial cargo capacity and an embarked fighter that extends its operational range. The Behind the Ships video describes it as larger and more versatile than the Mk IV, while keeping the spirit of the family. The email to subscribers emphasizes the continuity of the Constellation heritage and claims this increased versatility over the Mk IV.
Free trial, Twitch Drops and cosmetic pack
To encourage players to try it out, RSI is offering five days of free access to the Centaurus and the Skylark to anyone who completes the RSI Discovery Month mission: Constellation Rental Offer.
The email also mentions two other initiatives:
- Twitch Drops: from October 14 to 27, four cumulative hours of viewing on a compatible stream unlock the Phoenix Insignia Display for free, a hangar decoration hologram inspired by the former Constellation Phoenix. The conditions are detailed in a comm-link.
- RSI Discovery Month Digital Goodies Pack: a bundle of 15 cosmetic items (outfits, weapons, paints, decorations), available now, which includes a Starwalker paint for the Centaurus and the Skylark.
A price not officially confirmed
None of the official sources collected mention a price. Several community threads, including a Spectrum post and a Reddit thread, mention a launch price of around $275 in warbond, and $300 with the Skylark. These amounts are not confirmed by CIG in the documents reviewed.
A simplified store
At the same time, RSI has consolidated its former starter packs, excluding the Concierge multi-ship packs, into a single offer, the First Flight Pack. It centers on the Aurora Mk II and includes 30-day loaners for the Golem, the Fortune and the Intrepid, so that new players can try several play styles before choosing their first ship.
Background
The Centaurus was introduced with Alpha 4.10.2, alongside the Gold Standard rework of the Constellation Mk IV and the launch of RSI Discovery Month. The schedule published in This Week in Star Citizen announced a new episode of Behind The Ships for Wednesday the 14th, which matches this reveal.
What we still don't know
Several points remain without an official answer: the launch price and how long the free trial will be available beyond the mission described. The next signal to watch is the weekly RSI newsletter planned for Friday, October 16. A server fix is also being tested on a canary basis on several Live shards. It notably corrects the calculation of the total score for the RSI Discovery Month event.
