🔧 Patch notes and official CIG announcements
Alpha 5.0 enters PTU testing: build 13119881 open to Evocati then Wave 1
After the renaming of Alpha 4.11 to Alpha 5.0 announced yesterday in the Roadmap Roundup, CIG moves into action: a new PTU build, 13119881, was distributed last night first to Evocati under standard NDA, before being opened to Wave 1 this morning around 02:44 UTC after build validation. Testing is scheduled to run until 20:00 UTC today.
This build constitutes the first true PTU rollout of the Genesis technologies mentioned yesterday: it focuses on Nyx I itself, with a complete environment pass, the arrival of Guild Halls and mission boards, and a new batch of contracts.
Environment pass on Nyx I
The surface of Nyx I receives a broad polish pass, centered on reading biomes both up close and from a distance:
- Forest density revised, with new placements for Heart of Woods.
- Gutierrezia and green Heart of Woods no longer grow on beach soils, for consistency with other terrestrial plants.
- Mature Populus now receive random snags and tilt instead of fixed orientation.
- Summer foliage darkened, with distant tint now matched to close color.
- Seasonal shift of Lemna corrected so near and far colors match.
- Snow accumulation in arctic biome now uses the same surface grouping as other biomes.
- Clay and granite colors corrected, after being derived from wrong color space.
- Rocks now support parallax occlusion mapping, with height reworked accordingly.
- Intermediate terrain layers recalibrated for maximum accuracy across texture extent.
- New shading classes for bushes and for Nyx I overall.
- Rocky and environmental assets receive explicit per-sub-element collision behavior following playability review; several rocky variants of Nyx I now completely ignore wheeled vehicles.
- Dalbergia physical collision, lost during a previous change, is restored.
- Potential fix: vegetation floating above terrain, now snapped to lowest value between rocky relief and soil (STARC-221075).
Weather and atmosphere
Atmospheric lighting has been rethought to respond to actual cloud coverage rather than cloud type: overcast sky now carries light that truly diffuses through a thick layer, resulting in brighter conditions under heavy cloud and a noticeably clearer night sky in cloudy weather. Rain, lightning, and day/night temperature range now follow the same actual coverage logic, and snow effects have been recalibrated for altitudes specific to Nyx I.
- Storm snow effects reworked, with altitude threshold adjusted to Nyx I needs.
- Rain no longer accumulates below the snow line.
- Lightning strength calculation revised, separating location weighting from event intensity.
- Lightning now strikes more readily in low-density cloud clusters.
- Potential fix: lightning disappeared too quickly on planets, targeting shapes are now sized to targeting mode and strike frequency recalculated per attempt.
- Planetary audio queries now batch surface data readings by chunks.
- Update of color gradations and long-distance lookup tables for Nyx I.
Guild Halls and mission boards
Guild Halls make their appearance on Nyx I, giving each guild a physical presence on the planet where they can pick up contracts via mission boards. The entire location kit receives an art and lighting pass, and loot distribution across installations has been rebalanced following directorate feedback.
- Guild Hall walls, colors, and room tints reworked, with mesh pieces moved to let logos breathe and less shiny rendering.
- Screen materials and coverage window geometry added in Guild Halls.
- Mission board backgrounds and notice board panels added.
- Command and bridge buildings reworked (floor and ceiling heights, cleanup of visibility areas).
- New depot, camp, and bunker tiles, with loot added throughout.
- Increased quantity and quality of loot in locked rooms of command buildings.
- Sniper rifle racks and ammo crates added to watchtowers, with more ammo caches in complex tiles.
- Logistics exterior dressing, wall kits, and window frame refinements.
- Exterior fixes on watchtowers and warehouses, plus new ventilation duct prefab.
- Climbable ledges added to depot, agriculture, and extraction tiles.
- Provisional ladders replaced with finalized versions.
- Irrigator and extractor visual effects added.
- Lighting passes on habitation, storage, depot, agriculture, extraction, maintenance, and watchtower tiles.
- Hit points of defensive turrets increased by 50% for sizes 1 to 3.
- Kill volumes for mining extractors put in place.
- NPCs carrying level 3 key cards are removed from all fighter groups except the First Legion.
- Potential fix: shelf object slots at top accepting 1 SCU containers instead of two-handed objects.
- Potential fix: missing ceiling in exterior alcove, interior railings around anti-air turrets, provisional decal and door interaction point misalignment.
Contracts
Contracts continue to roll out guild by guild, with the arrival of Covalex contracts in addition to camp and missing person missions. Several generation and spawn issues that were blocking contracts during the previous preview have also been fixed.
- Covalex contracts activated, with first pass reward balancing.
- Camp contracts activated, including Hockrow missing person mission.
- Fixes on Eckhart Global contracts.
- Missing person mission triggers restored.
- "Ship graveyard" mission locations added around Nyx I.
- Contract titles and descriptions updated across Nyx I set.
- Eliminate and Destroy contracts now share a resource slot with Eliminate Specific objectives indoors.
- Espionage and diagnostic data discs are no longer stackable.
- Potential fix: Red Wind lost cargo recovery contracts not appearing in-game.
- Potential fix: Eckhart security target AI not reappearing.
- Potential fix: missing person corpse not reappearing.
- Potential fix: harvestable mission objects rejected by cargo elevators.
- Potential fix: contracts requiring too many resource slots across multiple phases.
- Potential fix: "Eliminate All" objectives on multi-location contracts.
- Potential fix: entity tags of server racks for server destruction contracts.
- Potential fix: incorrect line break of "Opening" text.
Intraplanetary server meshing
After the introduction of intraplanetary server meshing and procedural generation tracker in previous Tech Previews, this build tackles the underlying spatial systems. Entity tracking structures that decide what gets streamed, replicated, and simulated have been extensively reworked for planetary scale, and the location entity declaration ceiling has been raised to handle surface procedural content density.
- Spatial partitioning overhaul on entity streaming, aggregate manager, and network replication.
- Maximum location entity declaration ceiling raised to 256.
- Fleet service can now flag a failing instance, and provisioned mesh instances can be queried directly.
- AI can once again use cover on planetary surfaces.
- Potential fix: group member connection notifications triggering on every server authority change after crash recovery.
- Potential fix: navigation mesh generation between terrain patches.
- Potential fix: external navigation link issues.
- Potential fix: dynamic objects failing to display in their environment due to instance culling.
Technical fixes
The build fixes 9 client crashes and 1 server crash. Among the listed potential fixes:
- Players losing collision with their own ship after leaving a seat, making ramps and elevators non-solid (STARC-201214).
- Objects lost after being carried (STARC-221212): exactly the bug that the MrKraken video on Tech Smugglers decryption keys works around (see Videos section below).
- Land vehicles and exo-suits not recoverable via insurance claims.
- Delivery object slots deleting mission objects placed on wrong slot.
- Only one PvP law enforcement contract offered at a time.
- Arena Commander Control control terminals non-interactive.
- Female Levski guards displaying provisional textures.
- ASOP terminal sound effects.
- High Risk bounty contracts now return 4,000 reputation points instead of 2,000 (STARC-114590).
On Reddit, the thread How is the current 5.0 Evo running? followed the wait for this build yesterday evening in real time, before its author corrected their own confusion about switchover timing. The thread [Evo PTU] Star Citizen Alpha 5.0 PTU 13119881 - Genesis, QDSM, Starchitect, Mission Boards - Patch Notes relays the complete official release, and 5.0 wave 1 go get it!!! celebrates this morning's Wave 1 opening.
New ships for sale on PTU
Several ships have appeared in PTU in-game shops, spotted and compiled by the community: the Drake Ironclad (Levski, 11,773,279 aUEC) and Pitbull (637,875 aUEC) at both Levski and Pyro (where the Ironclad becomes Assault version at 15,137,073 aUEC), the Starlight (1,058,400 aUEC) at both Levski and Pyro, the Tiburon (37,001,732 aUEC) at Pyro, and the M80 (7,938,000 aUEC) at Area 18. The community notes that these prices, particularly the Ironclad's, are likely to change before reaching Live.

- Tech Smugglers Decryption Key Workaround | 4.10.3
The decryption key for Vanduul Tech Smugglers missions regularly disappears in 4.10.3 PTU as in 4.10.2 Live, sometimes just before mission end. The creator provides a tested workaround (drop the object on ground, verify it reappears, then pick it up again before interacting with terminal), while cautioning it depends on server state and isn't 100% reliable. He links the problem to the Issue Council and underscores its importance with Vanduul Incursion missions arriving, which require these smugglers as a prerequisite. Build 5.0 released tonight (see above) indeed lists a potential fix for "objects lost after being carried" (STARC-221212).

💬 Spectrum: synthesis of most discussed topics
The general forum today revolves around the opening of Alpha 5.0 PTU testing, between curiosity about Genesis technologies and persistent frustration over topics dragging on for several days. No direct CIG intervention is to be noted on these threads: official word today concentrated on tester channels relayed in the Patch Notes section.
Silence on Squadron 42 increasingly frustrating
Where is the Squadron 42 behind the scenes video? (42 votes, 32 replies) crystallizes growing impatience: the behind-the-scenes video of October's Squadron 42 event, already requested yesterday on Reddit without response, continues to be delayed and the tone of the thread hardens as days pass without news.
Starchitect and Genesis, the mechanics behind the promise
Stanton and Genesis Tech (19 votes, 32 replies) wonders about future application of Genesis technologies to Stanton, the game's historical system, once tested on Nyx I. In a more down-to-earth echo, Liberator Release and Vehicle Spawning in Hangars (12 votes, 9 replies) details practical issues with vehicle spawning in hangars as the carrier ship's IAE release approaches.
Between persistent bugs and various requests
Escape Pods (16 votes, 45 replies) relaunches the recurring debate about escape pod reliability, while Cannot receive gift - "You do not have access to this item" (5 votes but 378 views) flags a blocking bug in the gift system. PTU price for new ships echoes the price list noted on Reddit (see Patch Notes) for freshly appearing PTU shop ships.
The rest of the forum remains occupied by a collection of more specific topics: a lore discussion on Kr'Thak...the same as the Kn'thrak Prophecy...borrowing the name..., an inquiry about future road infrastructure in Roads by 2030?, a help request in Selecting the Right Exploration Ship for Me, a question about a possible discount in Squadron42 discount, a plea for Polaris weaponry in CIG, Put Me on the Phone with the Big Boss: My Polaris Needs to Make It Rain, a question about a MISC Odyssey variant in Do we get a TAC Variant of the MISC Odyssey, and a fix request for holotables in @CIG - Please fix holotables.
💬 Reddit r/starcitizen (by theme, overall sentiment)
Today's mood on r/starcitizen is one of technical excitement: Alpha 5.0 PTU opening dominates exchanges, carried by unprecedented official captures of Nyx I and early testers' enthusiasm. In the background, daily verse life continues to fuel its share of anecdotes, between joys and mining misadventures. The Squadron 42 silence topic, hot on Spectrum, finds here a more muted echo, in the form of private joke rather than frank impatience.
Alpha 5.0 takes shape on PTU

New ships land in PTU shop
New ships available to buy in-game in PTU and Ships added to in-game shops in new update. together list the ships now available for in-game purchase on PTU (see price details in Patch Notes section), with general commentary that the Ironclad's price will almost certainly climb before reaching Live.
Banu Merchantman and Liberator still at the center of attention
After the announcement of its development restart in the Monthly Report, the Banu Merchantman continues to make the community smile: I'm happy for you Merchantman owners. illustrates this collective sympathy. On the Liberator side, Anvil Liberator: Promo vs final model brings another comparison between promotional render and final model, the ship's additional width continuing to build consensus for its carrier role.
Gameplay, substantive discussions and wishes
Hangars need to be redesigned. Here's why. offers argued criticism of docking port orientation versus cargo elevator placement for ships like the C-2 or Ironclad. Opinion for IAE ? hesitates between keeping its Polaris or melting it for a Liberator and Galaxy, Hand Shields in Star Citizen? imagines defensive equipment missing from the game, and Rivers when? relaunches the wish to see waterways on future versions of planetary technology.
Between misadventures and small daily pleasures
Lost 200 Million tells of losing a very high-quality ore cargo due to unexpected explosion while loading a Taurus, a misadventure that finds bitter echo in Welcome, Gatac Hyun!, where a commenter wonders about a potential mining overhaul to come. Conversely, Not Today Elevator Mimic and Despite all the flaws, this never gets old. celebrate the small pleasures of the game, while Good Morning, Lorville and Hurston (+Moons) - 4k wallpapers - Eckert IV projection maps feed the subreddit's creative vein with wallpapers and polished captures. Finally, A blast from the past: Chris Roberts' Wing Commander series on Steam sale. notes a Steam promotion on the series that launched the creator's career.
🕵️ Leaks & Datamining
Unofficial content from community datamining: subject to change, never confirmed by CIG.
Three new FPS weapons spotted in files
Community datamining has uncovered three new FPS weapons, with their variants:
- The Kastak Arms "Hellion" pistol: a base version plus three unnamed variants for now (skin not yet functional).
- The Kastak Arms "Verdict" LMG: a base version, a shop skin named "Derivation", and three unnamed variants. Its "Shotgun" fire mode would reduce heat buildup, but could only be used if heat capacity remained available.
- The ASD "Model-K2" DMR: a base version, an unnamed shop skin and four unnamed variants (non-functional skins). It would share the same heat-reducing "Shotgun" firing mechanism as the Verdict.
The Kastak Arms "Verdict" LMG as extracted from game files.
The ASD "Model-K2" DMR spotted in build files.
Sand Apex Valakkar, new hostile creature
The model, animations, and attacks of the Sand Apex Valakkar have been added to files, though it doesn't yet seem to engage players. Where this creature is supposed to appear remains unknown at this stage.
