🔧 Patch notes and official CIG announcements

Live remains on Alpha 4.10.2, but the PTU takes an important step forward: Alpha 4.10.3, previously limited to Wave 1, is now opening to all testers with build 13055118.

Alpha 4.10.3 PTU moves to All Waves (build 13055118)

The Vanduul Incursion missions, introduced in Wave 1, receive a series of adjustments ahead of this wider release:

  • Quantum travel to Shattered Blade Raid sites now works correctly.
  • Contracts now correctly assign their reward plans upon mission completion.
  • Vanduul NPCs now properly load their armor instead of appearing unclothed.
  • Vanduul can no longer be stunned or caught by player tractor beams.
  • Mauler health points have been reduced, in exchange for increased weapon damage.
  • A new AI pass has been applied to incursion sites, with three distinct attack layers, corridor routing designed to disperse defenders, and revised loot.
  • Only a single blue Vanduul cryopod now appears per site.
  • Welcome To Nyx space combat music now plays during encounters with Vanduul.
  • The Eliminate Specific contract text has been revised, and the Neutralize Boss objective renamed to Neutralize Target.
  • An additional economic balancing pass has been applied to contract missions.

The LBCO Skarnov Rifle, also introduced in Wave 1, sees its characteristics adjusted:

  • Energy damage per shot: from 10 to 30.
  • Electronic chain propagation range: from 3.8 m to 7.5 m.
  • Correction of damage floor in case of projectile velocity loss: it was set at 30 energy when base damage was only 10 (the minimum exceeded the base maximum). It is now 20 for a base of 30, and redundant distortion and stun floors have been removed.
  • Weapon mass: from 4.9 to 2.9 kg.
  • Magazine mass: from 1.12 to 1.05 kg.
  • Slight recoil reduction in rapid-fire mode.
  • The ten audio triggers for the weapon's fire sound were previously empty strings: the weapon produced no detonation sound, neither indoors nor outdoors. All ten are now properly populated.
  • The barrel attachment port previously only accepted ballistic barrel types: it now accepts energy barrels, as intended.

The loading screen for version 4.10.3 has also been updated with new visuals.

New Alpha 4.10.3 loading screen The new loading screen introduced with the Alpha 4.10.3 All Waves build.

On the fixes side, six issues are addressed in this build:

  • The Collector introduction contract was not appearing in the contract manager, blocking access to the entire Collector mission line.
  • Auto-landing was not validating the "Land at LEO" objective during Part 3 of the new player experience.
  • A failed store purchase could expire and then block any new purchase attempts until a server change.
  • Landing services in mobiGlas could remain stuck on "Processing" or "Blocked" statuses.
  • A large amount of duplicate cargo could appear in the cargo elevator after completing a Recover Cargo contract.
  • Hostile AI in bounty and mercenary contracts could stop retaliating; they now return to SCM mode at the end of an interception.

📧 Emails

What CIG sent to its subscribers this week:

🔭 Sneak Peek of the week

Sneak Peek

Friday's mystery image shows what appears to be a new armor set, simply captioned "Epoque II Armor" and accompanied by the ritual formula "By the power of Gold Skull". Nothing is confirmed at this stage, but the name closely matches the Geist Epoque II armor pieces spotted by dataminers recently: to be verified upon the next official reveal.

Weekly Update: Day of the Vara Continues

CIG's weekly newsletter extends the Day of the Vara 2956 festivities, the game's seasonal event, with a special Arena Commander mode, a pumpkin carving contest and new paints featuring the verse's most monstrous creatures of the season.

  • Pumpkin Decorating Contest: community contest for virtual pumpkin decoration, open for the duration of the event.
  • Special Arena Commander: an ephemeral and frightening game mode allows players to earn a Vanduul mask by surviving the challenge.
  • RSI Celebration Offers: limited-time offers celebrate the RSI Constellation Mk IV's transition to "modern classic" status. All four variants benefit from improved visibility from the pilot's seat, redesigned living spaces, additional suit lockers and weapon racks, as well as full component access. Improved insurance and new paints, classic or previously unreleased, accompany the offer while it lasts.

💬 Spectrum: synthesis of most discussed topics

The general forum is today largely polarized by the implementation of CIG's new gifting system, which crystallizes the majority of the most commented threads. In the background, the debate over Mauler balancing continues to simmer, as does the frustration around a Squadron 42 video promised but still invisible. No message bearing the -CIG mention has come to settle either of these issues.

The new gifting system, target of all criticism

CIG's New Gifting Restrictions Make No Sense (26 votes, 34 replies) opens the round of complaints, closely followed by BuyBack items are marked as permanently Non-Giftable from now (9 votes, 36 replies), which documents the most commented consequence: an item restored through buyback permanently loses the ability to be gifted. Around this hard core gravitate New TOS acceptance box, Launcher declares TOS update, but doesn't tell the changes which criticizes the lack of transparency on associated terms of service, Gift Cards and Warbond, Gifting Via Handle Possible and Gifting $1,000+ Pledges, which seek to determine the practical limits of the new system. The most mistrustful tone is found in Don´t trust them, they LIE to you!, which generalizes distrust to CIG's entire communication on this change.

The Mauler, still under fire

The Mauler: When Your Endgame Strategy Is Hoping the Torpedoes Work (38 votes, 25 replies) extends the debate on the massive buff to the Vanduul weapon, already heated the previous day. Dataminers for their part have already spotted, in the latest build, a reduction in its Igniter beam damage (see the Leaks section below), a sign that CIG may be adjusting the calibration before the patch even releases.

Squadron 42: the video that won't come

CIG, about that "Behind the Scenes" video of the Squadron 42 event you "planned" to release this week.... (31 votes, 34 replies) reminds that CIG had announced a behind-the-scenes video of the Squadron 42 event for this week, and is annoyed by its persistent absence. The community has made it a subject of mockery even on Reddit (see below).

The dossier of "bricked" ships, already hot the previous day, continues to swell without official response: the thread I really hate the Ship Bricking System. went from 22 to 99 votes in one day. On the ships and cosmetics side, also noteworthy:

💬 Reddit r/starcitizen (by theme, general sentiment)

The subreddit oscillates today between assumed mockery over the new gifting system and the absence of the Squadron 42 video, small hangar pride, and an emotional tribute from outside the game. The convergence with Spectrum is clear on two subjects: gifting and anticipation around Squadron 42.

Gifting, subject of all debate

PSA: New Gifting Policy is LIVE. makes the point, in the same spirit as the Spectrum threads mentioned above: you must now check the gift box at the time of purchase, unclaimed gifts within 30 days are automatically refunded, a gifted pledge no longer transits through the hangar (making it impossible to upgrade before gifting), and buybacks, which are officially not supposed to be gifted, nonetheless appear to be giftable from the hangar if purchased in cash: the author sees this as a bug rather than a feature. Cig getting ready to remove gifting completely? extends the concern by speculating on a complete removal of the feature eventually.

Cig getting ready to remove gifting completely? A post that illustrates growing distrust around the new gifting system (30/10).

Squadron 42, between satire and wistful nostalgia

You loved delaying Squadron 42, so now CIG is bringing you "Delaying the Squadron 42 video" ridicules the absence of the promised video, in direct echo to the Spectrum thread mentioned above.

You loved delaying Squadron 42, so now CIG is bringing you "Delaying the Squadron 42 video" Satirical montage on the delay of the Squadron 42 "Behind the Scenes" video (30/10).

In a completely different register, RIP Patrick Stewart. pays tribute to the actor, with many recalling that through his role as captain in science fiction, he inspired the desire in some players to one day fund this game in hopes of sitting in the command chair.

PTU and Tech Preview Genesis testing

Genesis made me quit. recounts, in a tone of irony, how much Tech Preview Genesis (see the Patch notes section) spoiled his return to classic Live servers, seduced by the visual quality and convenience of the new mission system. Nyx 1 looks better, Until then. comments on bloom rendering on Nyx 1 and notes, in PTU 4.10.3, a Stingray cruise sound compared to a locomotive. Update to character weight and movement speed in TP is surprisingly logical. details, with figures to back it up, the logic behind the new weight system tested on Tech Preview: on Live, heavy equipment with two machine guns (80 kg) has exactly the same speed as super-heavy armor (200 kg), the penalty cap being reached at 80 kg; on Tech Preview, this cap moves back to 200 kg, finally creating a real gradation between configurations. In the same exploratory vein, Will the IAE patch contain Nyx 1? wonders about the timeline for the system's arrival on a wider patch.

Ships: pride, nostalgia and skepticism

New Connie came with a little bonus humorously shares an unexpected find after purchasing the Constellation, the very ship highlighted by this week's celebration offers (see the Emails section). What Skylark could've been. regrets the design choice of the small embarked fighter, just presented in the latest Jump Point, would have preferred a version inspired by the Meteor rather than the Zeus. Guys, we need Ship Painters as a profession!! argues for a profession dedicated to ship painting, and StarCitizen RSI Galaxy Launching like For your consideration: The RSI Galaxy celebrate, through two separate posts, this highly anticipated carrier. On this month's bundle, November Bundle. Epoque II is surprised by the absence of the hooded cape nonetheless anticipated, a theme that finds an echo on Spectrum via CiG can we request December's armor bundle?, where the same person already requests a cowboy theme for the following month.

Anecdotes and discoveries of the day

Idris Hard Vehicle Limit is Lifted (4.0.2 LIVE) reports, after testing several hours that allowed loading around sixty vehicles, that the hard limit on Idris hangar vehicles (initially 20, then reduced to 10) seems to have disappeared, the author seeing this as possible preparation for the Liberator's arrival. The latter fuels How are we supposed to use the Liberator if we can only call one ship at a time?, where players seek methods to efficiently load this vehicle carrier despite the one-ship-call limit. Finally, Nyx 1 Terraformers brings back the gigantic terraforming structures already spotted by dataminers, this time observed directly in-game by players.

🕵️ Leaks & Datamining

Unofficial content from community datamining: subject to change, never confirmed by CIG.

The Mauler, already toned down?

Dataminers who pored over the Alpha 4.10.3 All Waves build report that the damage per second of the Igniter beam (S9) on the Vanduul Mauler went from 55,000 to 27,500, a reduction by half compared to the previous build. Nothing official accompanies this change, but it goes in line with the criticism voiced on Spectrum (see above) against the magnitude of the initial buff to this Vanduul weapon.
