🔧 Patch notes and official CIG announcements
Alpha 4.10, dubbed « Siege of Orison », left the PTU to join the live environment on August 26 in the evening, after a pre-announced maintenance window (new logins cut off, planned server shutdown). The launcher now displays version 4.10.0-LIVE.12519617. Long-term persistence (LTP) was preserved and new characters start with 20,000 aUEC.
Gameplay
- Siege of Orison V2: the mission becomes playable again, but in an entirely revised form. It's the first mission built on the new on-demand instancing system: the CDF recruits players to break Nine Tails gang hold over Orison's Inspiration Park complex, this time in a closed instance reserved for the group (up to four players). A unique introductory mission directs toward instance elevators near the Crusader showroom at Orison, then the main mission starts automatically on each arrival. The confrontation is now purely FPS-oriented, the three platforms have been reworked for tighter combat, and Nine Tails receive a complete visual identity, from common thugs to custom-armored bosses. Respawn checkpoints are unlimited and no longer consume medgel. Mission success grants aUEC, fabrication plans and an exclusive weapon skin, with additional loot to collect during the mission.
- Recco Battaglia is back: this former miner, amputated of part of a leg after saving colleagues during an accident, now gives missions in person from Levski. She manages resource logistics and launches a series of industrial missions (mining, scanning, fabrication) rewarded with unique fabrication plans.
- Overhaul of loot generation and drop rates: weapon caches now contain more than double their previous content, large weapon accessories become common in standard caches, and rare caches can now spawn the heavy machine gun with two to four matching magazines (impossible before). General containers see their content significantly increased across all sizes, and rarity tables have been tightened so low-level loot no longer dilutes top-tier drops. MedGel now appears almost systematically in rare medical caches, fuses are guaranteed in repair crates.
- Wikelo Trade Hub update: operation changes fundamentally. Wikelo now asks you to fabricate a specific object rather than simply gather multiple items. You must read the posters in their showroom to know what object is being requested, take the contract, obtain a single-use plan, then fabricate the object via a fabricator before depositing it in the freight elevator. The player then chooses to retrieve the ship immediately or later in their personal hangar (ships cannot be stored at Wikelo). Armor and weapon trades work as before, except the fabrication plan for the reward is now preserved.
Ships and vehicles
- Rebalancing of hydrogen fuel and Quantum Drive, as well as an update to vehicle armor.
- Ship prices, claims and availability: ASOP terminals now apply a claim delay that scales based on ship value (a light fighter returns quickly, a capital hull takes much longer). Weapons and weapon racks now have their own prices, which therefore add to the claim cost of an equipped ship. Terminals offer a paid acceleration option for claims and deliveries, charged at double the standard rate per aUEC spent and capped at one-tenth of the standard claim cost (a convenience supplement, not a way to circumvent the system). Repeated claims of the same ship no longer progressively cost more. Explosive ammunition sees its price jump significantly, between 44 and approximately 310% depending on type, with smallest calibers experiencing the largest increases.
- Kruger S-65 Stingray: the manufacturer's first medium fighter, it exploits Kruger's characteristic use of concealed weapons and transforms its silhouette between Landed (compact), Flight (aerodynamic) and Combat (ready for close combat) modes.
- Vehicle weapon rebalancing: size 4 ballistic gatlings have been recategorized and now inflict approximately 68% more damage per shot (they previously incorrectly inherited size 3 ammunition and damage scale). The size 4 ballistic combined cannon loses its damage gloss, becoming a direct-impact weapon, and its direct damage is reduced by approximately 10%.
- Other adjustments: the Kruger P-52 Merlin's center firing position now has an adjustable gimbal, the Kruger L-22 Alphawolf joins Astro Armada at Area18, and the RSI Aurora Mk II replaces the Mk I in shop inventories.
Weapons and equipment
- New FPS weapon: the Hedeby Gunworks « Arlington » lever-action rifle.
- New FPS equipment: the BUL-H4 super-heavy armor and the Apocalypse Arms « Vendetta » heavy machine gun.
- Expanded shop inventory: railguns arrive in certain armories, Vendetta special magazines are deployed in multiple configurations, and freight containers can now be retrieved via global item recovery.
Base tech and audio
- Introduction of instancing: new closed game spaces, reserved for a group, arrive in the persistent universe. Siege of Orison is the first mission built on this system, Recco Battaglia's office is the second. A new backend service, the « Instancing Broker », creates, allocates and dismantles instances, caps the number of players per instance and manages instance lifespan before inactive recovery. If an instance cannot be created, a notification now displays instead of silent failure.
- Server load distribution: dynamic balancing is now based on total frame time, which should reduce server overload and memory errors, with increased mesh overflow capacity to absorb the load increase from instances.
- Experimental VR updates: head tracking now works everywhere in the game and continues during loads; the stereo cursor is aligned with the player's body (it no longer moves in an elevator or train); holograms finally display correctly in VR; water simulation and caustics are resynchronized between both eyes; OpenXR updates to version 1.1.60 with hot resolution changing.
Fix tally
This live release closes 479 fixes, including 101 from the Issue Council, with a focus on 47 crash and stability issues and 17 exploits fixed:
- Client crashes: 20
- Server crashes: 20
- Crashes affecting both client and server: 2
- Server blockages and deadlocks: 2
- Backend service crashes: 3
Among the notable fixes tested during PTU cycles leading to this live: the S-65 Stingray cockpit not taking damage correctly, the same ship's rear section allowing shots through without passing through shields, Siege of Orison mission marking complete without any objective being fulfilled, ASOP terminal « Retrieve » button remaining permanently greyed out, Siege of Orison NPCs ignoring their defense zones after server crash recovery, cargo duplication in freight elevators, geometry defect at Levski's Borehole elevator, a bug preventing Merlin supply contract validation, camera offset during character creation, an exploit allowing free weapon and rack claims, and several script issues on Battaglia's first mission.
Known during PTU phase (live release status not confirmed by CIG): noticeable delay before instance elevator opening, and a few-second freeze at the second force field when fully loading the main instance at Stanton.
Improving the Live Experience
CIG published the official article Improving the Live Experience, which details a change in how the game's most persistent issues are handled. Rather than fixing bugs one by one, teams now say they're grouping issues by system, focusing on parts of the game that players rely on each session, and share an initial progress report since this prioritization change was announced. The article is accompanied by the announcement of a new video format: a first approximately 30-minute episode filming cameras placed in certain internal development meetings, with distribution expected to follow. Community reception was particularly positive, with several Spectrum threads praising the initiative as a welcome transparency gesture.
Roadmap Roundup, August 26, 2026
The following cards have moved to Released status for Alpha 4.10:
- Recco Battaglia as mission giver.
- The « BUL-H4 » super-heavy combat armor.
- The instancing system.
- Siege of Orison.
- Tank and fuel consumption rebalancing.
- The new Wikelo ship offering, with the Drake Clipper.
- The Apocalypse Arms « Vendetta » heavy machine gun.
- The Hedeby Gunworks « Arlington » lever-action rifle and its new S2 scope.
- The Kruger Stingray.
However, Item Recovery: Ship Loadout Improvements is pushed to Alpha 4.11 for further PTU testing. For this same 4.11, two new cards appear at Tentative status: Nyx II, an inhospitable planet with high temperatures and dense atmosphere laden with thick clouds, where commercial development remains nearly nonexistent despite some surface resources; and Nyx III, an ice giant without breathable atmosphere, deemed unpropitious for large-scale commercial resource exploitation.
Ship Showdown 2956: The Elite Eight
CIG announces the Ship Showdown tournament entering Elite Eight phase: player votes now decide the Final Four. An exclusive Free Fly for backers allows in-flight testing of the eight finalist ships during the competition. Qualifiers for the Final Four will receive a special ship paint and challenge badge, and supporters of the final winner will be gifted a bomber jacket in the winning manufacturer's colors. On this subject, players comment on Reddit about what they judge to be an overwhelming lead by the Ironclad Assault over the MTC in one of the duels, but this is just community speculation: voting is still ongoing and no official source has announced a result.

💬 Spectrum: summary of most discussed topics
The general forums ignited as soon as servers opened Wednesday evening: between enthusiasm for Alpha 4.10 content and frustration with the inevitable launch hiccups, the dominant tone remains that of a community both eager and jaded by previous releases. No developers commented directly in the most upvoted threads during this window, but the official article Improving the Live Experience clearly made an impact.
A praised launch, persistent weariness
Wow. Those Patch Notes! (54 votes, 23 replies) and Congrats for 4.10 ! praise the scope of delivered content. But the most upvoted thread of the window, You guys can't keep doing this. (90 votes, 22 replies), expresses broader weariness at release pace, and No warning before server shutdown (52 votes, 45 replies) points to a server cutoff perceived as too abrupt despite maintenance announcement. In this climate, thanks addressed to CIG for its bug prioritization article take on full meaning: threads like Official CIG post explaining the bugs and fixes, kudos to CIG! and \"Improving the Live Experience\" - More of THIS! praise the approach as a step in the right direction.
First day bugs
As with every major release, bug hunting began immediately: super-heavy armor that remains locked on the character and which, once equipped, cannot be stored, pledge items that disappear without claim ability, an inventory shuffled again according to this thread, or XL hangars suspected of being buggy. None of this is confirmed as a widespread issue by CIG at this stage: these are player testimonies, to be taken as such.
Ship Showdown and Kruger news
Elite Eight voting also animates discussions, between those who don't want Free Fly ships and those calling for voting for the MTC in this mobilization thread. On Kruger's side, feedback on the manufacturer's new weapons is split between curiosity and criticism in Kruger Weapons in 4.10 and To the Kruger weapon department, while one thread questions the accuracy of marketing language around the Stingray in \"The first ship with three distinct states\"?.
💬 Reddit r/starcitizen (by theme, general sentiment)
The subreddit's mood oscillates between the classic jitters of release day and a mix of pride and mockery at early hiccups. Many posts are screenshots or jokes rather than in-depth analysis, but a few serious threads emerge, in direct echo of Spectrum discussions.
The patch arrives, then bugs appear
The anticipation shows in 4.10 is comming and 4.10 is going live after the maintenance, before the first anomalies surface: a menu whose separator is mysteriously off-center, an unidentified inventory item that puzzles in What The Heck Is This, or conversely a pleasant surprise with Apollo Triage modules finally appearing correctly according to They did it. This directly echoes Spectrum's bug reports on heavy armor and XL hangars.
Ship Showdown: passion and predictions
Elite Eight duel also speaks here, with a firm but unconfirmed prediction in Its already over. 2-0 lead. Infinite % lead by the ironclad right now., to be taken as player opinion since official voting remains open.
The Kruger flightsuit makes its appearance in the pledge shop (08/26).
Kruger at shop, roadmap and Squadron 42 skepticism
The Stingray's release comes with the sale of the Kruger flightsuit in the pledge shop, while another thread jokes about requesting the textured 3D model as a future monthly bundle. A ship selling slower than expected also draws attention: the warbond Idris still available three hours after the 4th wave opened fuels speculation on player appetite for such offerings. On a more critical note, one thread regrets that CIG communicates on Squadron 42 progress without detailing encountered difficulties, a sentiment of distrust that regularly crosses the community. Finally, one thread relays the new roadmap card of Nyx I, destined to receive Starchitect points of interest in 4.11, echoing the Roadmap Roundup detailed above.
💬 Discord: what circulates on servers
Beyond relaying already-covered patch notes above, a few elements circulate specifically on community servers. CIG takes the patch release as an opportunity to relaunch its annual newsletter survey, inviting players to give feedback on how news is communicated to them. Community toolmakers keep pace: MrKraken's unofficial StarStrings translation publishes a new version aligned with build RC2 of 4.10. An image of the « Chairman's Club Coin Case », humorously qualified as visually acceptable by those who shared it, also circulated among members tracking collectibles related to the Chairman's Club program.
