🔧 Patch notes and official CIG announcements
CIG has released a new Alpha 4.10 Release Candidate on the PTU: the RC2, build 12504217, displaying version 4.10.0-PTU.12504217. The build remains open to all waves (All Waves), on the PTU US channel only, with long-term persistence (LTP) enabled.
Extract from Alpha 4.10 PTU RC2 patch notes (24/08).
The test focus areas announced for this RC remain those of 4.10 from its first iterations:
- Stability and general fixes, with a focus on long-term persistence (LTP) between PTU releases.
- Siege of Orison in instanced version (Instanced Siege of Orison).
- Hydrogen fuel balancing and Quantum Drives.
- The new Arlington lever rifle.
- Orison Relief Support.
- The return of the Recco Battaglia narrative mission.
- Inventory updates at Wikelo.
Two known issues remain tracked on this build:
- Instancing / Locations / UI: the elevator to an instance triggers with noticeable delay after pressing the button.
- Stanton / Performance: the client can freeze for a few seconds at the second force field level when the main instance finishes loading.
On the fixes side, this RC2 brings new Server Meshing load distribution optimizations, as well as a potential fix preventing Mendo Ren from sliding along the balcony railings during the boss fight and falling out of the arena.
This RC2 follows RC1 (build 12497254) released a few days earlier, which notably fixed the cockpit invulnerability of the new Kruger S-65 Stingray and the direct damage passing through its unshielded rear section, as well as a bug rendering Siege of Orison impossible to start correctly. Live is currently running 4.9: it's toward this 4.10 in stabilization that CIG is targeting an imminent release.
In its official article This Week in Star Citizen, CIG confirms targeting an Alpha 4.10 Live release "this week", if all goes well. Direct consequence on the community calendar: rather than opening a wide Free Fly at the same time as a major patch, the team prefers to concentrate the Ship Showdown 2956 Free Fly (Elite Eight, August 26 to September 2) on already registered backers, while monitoring the patch release and refining the experience. The rest of the official program for the week:
- Wednesday, August 26: launch of Ship Showdown Elite Eight Free Fly, Roadmap Update and Roadmap Roundup.
- Friday, August 28: Bar Citizen World Tour stop at Gamescom in Cologne, RSI weekly newsletter and August issue of Jump Point for subscribers.

💬 Spectrum: synthesis of most discussed topics
The general forum is breathing a certain weariness today: threads asking CIG to account for its communication and development pace dominate the votes, with no visible official response in the batch. Alongside this grumbling, two separate threads are already enthusiastic about Squadron 42 as Gamescom approaches, proof that the community can also look ahead.
A community demanding accountability
The day's most voted thread, Could use your prayers (121 votes, 75 replies), sets the tone of a tired community seeking moral support rather than technical answers. Just behind, The Pledge (83 votes, 46 replies, tagged Concern) returns to CIG's initial commitment to its backers, a theme that also infuses Transparency and providing more information to the public, helps!, where players plead for greater clarity on studio decisions. The funding subject resurfaces with Star Citizen Funding Must Change! (40 replies), while 10 years of SC and PC Ages out in 2 days! share the same bitter irony: some upgrade their PCs faster than the game advances.
Ships: the great balancing debate
Pilots are not idle. The old Flight Model (37 votes) revives nostalgia for a past flight model, while Idris-P vs Perseus sparks debate over 35 replies on capital ship hierarchy. The more straightforward question of What Are Gunships Actually Supposed to Be Good At? seeks to clarify the role of this ship class, in a notably lighter tone than This is why every ship, imo, needs to have a lamp., which advocates for a universal ambiance detail.
The breath of fresh air from Squadron 42
Two threads stand out from the rest of the day's tone: SQ42 Releasing This Year Cures All Current Ills (62 replies) and Sqadron 42 The Gamescom hype is growing! (36 replies) testify to strong anticipation around the single-player campaign as Gamescom approaches, driven by hope for concrete announcements on its release schedule.
Small hassles, big irritations
A series of more modest threads round out today's picture: players report repeated crashes (27 replies), issues with promo codes no longer working, the absence of mission markers on Onyx, or the disappearance of in-game earned ships and items across updates. Nothing new on substance, but the cumulative effect sustains the general weariness described above.
💬 Reddit r/starcitizen (by theme, general sentiment)
The subreddit's mood is notably more contrasted than on Spectrum: between gripes over bugs, playful memes and genuine curiosity about the approaching 4.10, the community alternates between annoyance and anticipation. Notably, CIG's decision to separate major patch and Free Fly, announced in This Week in Star Citizen, finds favor even in the most critical threads.
CIG scores a point (before the real test)
The thread CiG good & wise decision. specifically praises the choice not to combine 4.10 release and an open-to-the-public Free Fly, a rare moment of consensus. The relay of the official This Week in Star Citizen and the Monday MOTD confirm that the community is closely following every CIG signal on build progress.
4.10 on the horizon: cleaning house
With the patch approaching, practical advice circulates: a post reminds players to craft or sell all ore in stock before the patch, a sign that a wipe or inventory loss is feared. The newcomer also speaks for itself: The S-65 Stingray gathers first PTU impressions, while M80 VS Super Hornet MK2 fuels the fighter debate. Ship Showdown continues to stir fan excitement, with a progress update on day 6 voting (the author mentioned a gap of over 12,800 votes between the M80 and Shiv at that point in the poll, without the tournament being closed) and propaganda fan-art for the Railen.
Humorous montage in support of the Railen, posted during Ship Showdown voting (24/08).
The small things that erode morale
Some posts document real losses: 15.5 million credits in CMATs gone with an Ironclad that left Levski, or reputation reset to zero after hours of Headhunter and Turf War missions, likely tied to friendly fire miscounted by the system. Irritation crystallizes in more direct posts like CIG fix your game. or CIG - Why don't the NPC's play fair?, which points to the perceived precision and omniscience of NPCs.
A player documents the loss of a CMAT shipment and Ironclad at Levski (24/08).
Anticipation of the verse
Far from complaints, some posts cultivate attachment to the game world: I can't wait for Nyx I to arrive celebrates Nyx already as a home system, and Making Pyro Dangerous Again pleads to restore this system's dangerousness. A more measured discussion on the feeling around sliding and scanning in FPS view also shows that the community keeps an eye on mechanics inherited from Squadron 42.
Laughter, memes and tinkering
The creative and humorous register remains very present: an alternate Lego build of the Cutlass Black and a M.E.C. chassis extension project testify to the vitality of the "maker" scene. On the meme side, the community enjoys everything: from the definition of LTI to clouds people wish were better, passing through a ship wreck deemed "the happiest scrap in the universe".
