🔧 Patch notes and official CIG announcements
Alpha 4.10 PTU, Wave 1, build 12335477
The latest test build went into Wave 1 with version 4.10.0-PTU.12335477, available on the PTU channel (US only), Long Term Persistence enabled. The testing focus is on stability, bug fixes, LTP between PTU versions, instanced Siege of Orison, hydrogen fuel balancing, and the new Arlington rifle.
- Arlington Lever Action Rifle (Hedeby Gunworks): a lever-action weapon designed for western-style enthusiasts, which can switch between a DMR mode (single fire, 70 damage) and a shotgun mode (8 pellets, 12.5 damage each). The manufacturer, already known for its fragmentation pistol, takes on its ammunition-shattering technology: with each change of firing mode, the weapon visually changes position. Characteristics: medium weight, projectile velocity 550/300, aim time 0.15s, fire rate 85 rounds/min, magazine of 20 rounds. It can be found in the Siege of Orison mission as well as a dedicated sight available in the verse.
- Technical fixes: new performance optimizations for Siege of Orison, correction of ore sale kiosks that systematically failed transactions, inventory filter menu that remained locked open, delayed AI reactions to spotted players, NPCs frozen at Lorville landing zone doors, smoke effects that triggered incorrectly during the mission, visual offset when dragging weapon accessories, Arlington search animation, a performance issue related to the tractor beam in Orison zone, and a visual effects preload issue.
Known issues currently tracked on this build:
- A vehicle can remain in reclaim status after an insurance claim or free equipment choice, with a risk of being marked as captured requiring a re-copy to PTU.
- The reclaim timer for insured or free equipment remains too long at the ASOP terminal.
- The force field door on "STANDBY" at Overworld (Siege of Orison) may not open.
- At Battaglia (Nyx), repeatable missions don't always follow the generic flow, which currently blocks mission 3.
- The elevator leading to the instance moves after a notable delay once the button is pressed.
- The client may freeze for a few seconds at the second force field when the main Stanton instance finishes loading.
- Severe performance drop when approaching the Solanki platform during Siege of Orison.
- The ARGO ATLS IKTI can become stuck in the ground after a significant fall.
This build follows the previous one (12326622), which had introduced hydrogen fuel rebalancing: tank resizing to match more faithfully the actual volume of ships, and significantly reduced consumption. This shift remains current as it now applies to the entire Siege of Orison currently being tested.
On LIVE, Alpha 4.9 remains on its open HOTFIX channel: the team is currently testing fixes for several of the most frequent client crashes, as well as leads for crash recovery, 64010 disconnect errors, and general server stability.
Foundation Festival and Ship Showdown: two major events launching
The Foundation Festival officially starts today, Wednesday, July 29, with a Free Fly, Roadmap Update, and Roadmap Roundup, plus announced Twitch Drops: four hours of watching on a participating channel is enough to unlock the ATLS Foundation Fest paint job for free, and subscribing to a creator during the period gives you the Banu Lockbox Replica, a decorative item missing since the Bar Citizen World Tour in 2022. The event documentation also specifies that sponsoring a new player during the Foundation Festival will entitle you to a free ARGO ATLS.
In parallel, Ship Showdown 2956 launched its Phase 1. The Polaris, defending its title after dominating the Asgard, Zeus ES, and Gladiator last year, must now defend its crown against the rest of the fleet. Phase 1, from July 28 to August 14, invites players to support their favorite ship with original creations (songs, models, machinima, screenshots) posted on the Community Hub or X with the hashtags #ShipShowdown and #StarCitizen: ten creations on the Community Hub and five on X will each win a Kruger L-22 Alpha Wolf with lifetime insurance. Excluded from voting this year: the Esperia Glaive, Vanduul Scythe, CNOU Mustang Omega, Aegis Sabre Raven, Greycat PTV, and Argo ATLS GEO IKTI (all variants). The Aegis Idris remains eligible throughout, but won't be part of the Free Fly if it reaches the Elite Eight, for server performance reasons. The eight divisions (Freighter, Road Warrior, Pathfinder, Underdog, Heavy Duty, Run & Gun, Eclectic Exotic, Big Hitters) will then face off in Phase 2, from August 18 to September 2, in daily duels until the champion is crowned, who will receive an exclusive bomber jacket at the Intergalactic Aerospace Expo.

💬 Spectrum: synthesis of most discussed topics
The general forum mood swings between technical annoyance and event excitement. In-game desynchronization continues to grind gears, the question of CIG's video silence returns once again with undiminished intensity, but the simultaneous arrival of the Foundation Festival and Ship Showdown brings back some positive energy to the community. No official CIG response distinguished itself on the hottest threads of the period.
Desynchronization and persistent bugs
The thread Desync crystallizes much of the technical grumbling, with 110 votes and 61 replies from players comparing their network lag experiences. The subject also seeps into more pointed reports: the Wolf aiming reticle deemed too high on screen, the Project Hyperion reactor compartment doors that never open once the reactor is reached, or a Prospector landing gear that remains stuck in a hangar elevator floor.
CIG's video silence, still a sore point
The thread ANOTHER week of no video content, tagged Concern, totals 113 votes and 55 replies: players regret the prolonged absence of Inside Star Citizen or Star Citizen Live, a sentiment that, as we'll see later, finds an almost identical echo on Reddit the same day.
Substantive gameplay debates
Several discussions seek to rethink entire systems. Ballistic Compromise proposes that shields protect both hull and modules rather than just absorbing some damage, a Gameplay subject that gathered 36 replies. Reworking Salvage pleads to move beyond the current salvage loop, deemed too repetitive. Even more controversial, Why doesn't CIG use numerous powerful AI tools to fix bugs? generated no fewer than 90 replies, between technical skepticism and debate about the reality of game development at this scale. In a more philosophical register, It is time for some flexibility, pragmatism also attracted 68 replies on how CIG should prioritize its development.
Foundation Festival and Ship Showdown already on everyone's minds
Unsurprisingly, the community is actively anticipating the day's double launch: Foundation Festival Free Fly Begins Wed 29th lists player expectations for the free trial, while a parallel suggestion asks for the Free Fly to have its own server to avoid congesting the usual shards. On Ship Showdown, one thread compiles semi-finalists from previous editions while another outright demands more brackets to expand the competition.
Player pride and creativity
On a lighter note, Tessa Banister is going to New Babbage continues a community roleplay intrigue followed closely. One player proudly displays that his Perseus finally has all its crafted components, another showcases the internal system of his Salvation, and a third wonders about the possibility of player-made emission clouds for certain ships equipped with transmitters.
Several shorter threads round out the picture: a recurring question about how crew works, a request for automatic deployment for all ships, speculation about a possible surprise at CitizenCon given the lighter announcement schedule, and a question about a possible donation for limited hulls.
💬 Reddit r/starcitizen (by theme, overall sentiment)
The mood on r/starcitizen is surprisingly close to Spectrum's: between frank laughs at the day's memes and real concerns about the profitability of gameplay loops, the overall sentiment remains positive but regularly dips on economic questions. The thread on CIG's video silence, almost identical to its Spectrum counterpart, confirms that the concern transcends a single group of forumers.
Mining and salvage, an endless trial
The post Battaglia salvage missions are another proof that CIG don't play its own game... illustrated with a screenshot tells of a poorly described salvage mission that failed an initial contract due to unclear specifications on resources to deliver. The sentiment carries on with Is Rockbreaker pointless?, where the author regrets spending 850,000 aUEC for two hours of mining that returned almost nothing of superior quality, and with Mining and Mole contract is a slap in the face to all solo players, which describes nine and a half hours of gameplay for a result well below mission expectations, a particularly stark problem for those playing without an organized group. A more positive note does come to balance this out: Fellow reclaimers: RMC is back in town explains how to disassemble mining heads to get high-quality Sadaryx and significantly improve the Reclaimer's scrapping efficiency.
Radio silence on official video content
4 Weeks now with Not a single ISC or SCL almost word-for-word echoes the frustration already noted on Spectrum: the author reminds that Jared announced wanting weekly videos, and calls for at minimum a sprint report on the status of base building or the Kraken. This convergence between the two platforms clearly makes it the day's substantive topic.
Small joys and small miseries of daily life
Two 4.9 LIVE fixes delight parts of the community: Polaris elevator is faster and now has buttons for the floors on PTU 4.10, and Routing in Station is Back, which allows routing a station point via mobiGlas again. On the flip side, I'd rather get sucked into the elevators illustrates by absurdity the persistent exasperation around elevators, and Am I the only one who thinks the fog in Star Citizen is so heavy that it kills the realism points out fog as a real drag on FPS gameplay compared to other tactical shooters. Finally, Really bad game design in Nyx System criticizes patrols punctuated by 40 to 50 Gm treks deemed unnecessarily long, with complete mission cancellation at the slightest partial failure.
Creativity and community showcase
The post I think it's fair to say that Perseus is going to win this year's Ship Showdown directly echoes the official launch of the competition. On creations, Making the Captains Quarters feel cozy on the Iron Clad Assault and SC Dressing Room by MrCosplayGuy showcase the vitality of community tools and decorations, the latter being a web configurator listing over 4,264 clothing items directly extracted from the LIVE 4.9 build. Finally, 3 execs hangars in one window tells of a player's euphoria at recovering a Corsair after several patches spent gathering exec cards.
Humor, memes and anecdotes
The humorous register remains very present with Found this guy out in the verse. He was afk, "Sniper pistol isn't real." Meanwhile, sniper pistol:, He doesn't know about the the sea shells and If only. The post Star Citizen gives and it takes and Pyro, seeds, murder hobos and Humanity found again each deliver a hectic session anecdote, between lost objects found by chance and a seed convoy that turns into an obstacle course.
A note on community moderation is worth flagging: Remove the "Frequent Flyer" Low-effort Ragebait Posters denounces a handful of accounts that would regularly post deliberately divisive titles to drive engagement, a sign that the subreddit is also questioning its own editorial health.
🕵️ Leaks & Datamining
Unofficial content from community datamining: subject to change, never confirmed by CIG.
Datamining of build PTU 4.10.0-12326622 reports an adjustment to the Item Recovery system: the base delivery delay would shift from 0 to 15 seconds, the maximum price would be capped at 1000 aUEC (or 1000 times the base price), and the aUEC accumulation rate per second would climb from 0.000001 to 0.001.
On the visual side, several new paint jobs and armor pieces have been spotted in game files, likely in preparation for the August patch bundle:
a "Silver" paint job still unidentified for the ANVIL Asgard.- A series of "Pirate" paint jobs (black, black, red) for the DRAKE Clipper, the DRAKE Ironclad and Ironclad Assault, as well as the Grey's Basher and Grey's Shiv.
a heavy armor baptized "SteelTek", identified in the files as BUL-H4.
According to information in circulation, highly probable but unconfirmed, the August patch bundle would contain precisely this Silver paint job (and possibly a SteelTek variant) for the Asgard, the super heavy armor suit BUL-H4 "SteelTek" with its helmet, an H4-PBF "SteelTek" ammunition carrier, as well as a Vendetta heavy machine gun in "SteelTek" finish. A correction provided by the source clarifies that this bundle is indeed expected for August and not September, as a typo had initially suggested.
New "Pirate" outfits in-game have also been captured and shared, continuing from the paint jobs of the same theme spotted in recent days.
