Genesis: 3rd Evocati Preview on Nyx I Brings Starchitect, Guild Halls and Server Meshing (October 16, 2026)

CIG has opened a third technical preview of Genesis on Nyx I to Evocati testers. It introduces the Starchitect tool, contracts through Guild Halls and a first form of interplanetary server meshing across three servers.

On October 15, CIG opened a third technical preview of Genesis centered on Nyx I to Evocati testers, under NDA. According to the notes accompanying the test, it highlights Starchitect, the tool that populates an entire planet with points of interest and links them to the contract system. It also tests a first form of server meshing applied to a planet.

Starchitect: A Planet Built in Layers

Starchitect organizes content in a four-level hierarchy:

  • Sectors are large zones, such as a forest or a mountain, each with its own purpose: agriculture, extraction, surveillance, and so on.
  • Clusters are regions within a sector, with a hub visible on the star map.
  • Locations are the points of interest themselves.
  • Tiles are the building blocks: buildings and outposts.

Each level receives rules that define its identity. A random draw then assigns a faction to each location, which influences the building colors, loot, NPCs and available contracts.

Location names are procedurally generated from two or three elements: a prefix, a location type and an optional suffix. They are chosen according to the faction and the function of the location. "Compounds", large complexes assembled from square tiles, are a notable variant.

Contracts: Guild Halls and the Hub and Spoke Logic

Contracts are now taken from boards installed in Guild Halls, one per regional hub. Accepting them earns reputation with the host guild. A local contract board, specific to each hub, complements the offer for nearby missions. The interface moves away from the mobiGlas in favor of a panel that displays more contracts and information, with a filter by faction.

The Hub and Spoke logic means bringing players back to a single central point so they can chain contracts without moving far away for long. Some contracts return to the starting point, while others go a bit further. The shift to a declarative system also allows more ambitious contracts that chain several locations and several types of objectives.

A First Interplanetary Server Meshing

An entire planet currently runs on a single server. For Nyx I, CIG statically distributes the different sectors across three separate servers. The publisher warns that behavioral irregularities may appear when crossing a server boundary, on foot as well as in vehicles, and asks players to report them via the Issue Council.

Several technical notes accompany this test. DX11 is available again, after being disabled during the previous Planet Tech V5 previews, with the goal of reaching parity with Vulkan. Server performance optimizations were added before the Starchitect content. Mineable resources, harvestable resources and fauna are deliberately not enabled, pending a service dedicated to their compatibility with server meshing.

Datamine Figures, Unofficial

According to dataminers, Nyx I would contain 857 locations spread across 8 sectors and 119 clusters, with 62 terraforming stations in orbit and a new L1 station. The location types identified include 262 unnamed mission spawn points, 115 survey sites, 93 habitation locations, 90 agricultural sites, 82 meteor crash sites, 62 caves, 55 surveillance sites, 41 extraction sites, 25 logistics sites, 17 communications sites and 15 compounds. This data comes from the build files. CIG has not confirmed it, and it may change.

Context

This third preview follows two earlier tests. The first, opened overnight from October 2 to 3, appears to have closed without an official report. A second took place around October 10, focusing on terrain, vegetation and server stability. On October 5, dataminers described a "Career Board" tied to Starchitect, with local missions with randomly generated titles and clients. The September Monthly Report, published on October 8, already mentioned Starchitect missions that could be accepted from mission boards.

Server meshing on a planet is part of the roadmap: for Alpha 4.11, the DGS Planet Subdivision map, which is meant to split a planet into several territories spread across different servers, has moved to Tentative status, with Nyx I as the first planet concerned. A creator details its scope in a video on the Roadmap changes.

What we still don't know

On October 15, a CIG developer indicated on the Evocati test thread that internal testing would pause for a day or two, with the hope of resuming on a new Genesis build "by Friday". The next signal to watch is therefore that build. It is unknown whether it will enable mineable resources and fauna, and whether the behavior at server boundaries will be fixed. No date has been set for opening the test beyond the Evocati. As for the datamine figures, no official source has confirmed them at this stage.
