PTU 4.10.2: New Physical Network for Loose Objects and StereoZoom 2.0 in VR (October 6, 2026)
The new PTU 4.10.2 build, open to all waves, replaces the abrupt correction of loose physical objects with a confidence score system. It also brings several experimental updates for VR, including StereoZoom 2.0, and a series of fixes.
In the patch notes published for the new Alpha 4.10.2 build, CIG details a network overhaul that handles loose physical objects, along with several experimental adjustments for virtual reality. The PTU remains open to all waves on the US channel, with long-term persistence enabled, while Live stays on Alpha 4.10.1. CIG says the test focuses on stability, bug fixes, persistence across PTU versions, Stanton event missions, the physical network overhaul, and VR updates.
A Confidence Score Instead of "All or Nothing"
The overhaul concerns freely simulated rigid bodies: crates, debris, dropped items. Until now, the client treated the state sent by the server as either entirely correct or entirely wrong. According to CIG, this could cause persistent desynchronization, with objects vibrating or bouncing for no visible reason.
The new system calculates a confidence score on the received state instead of applying it unconditionally. Confidence drops in two cases:
- when the client has just performed an action the server cannot yet know about, such as hitting a crate;
- when the server's state is outdated.
Corrections now happen through small velocity impulses rather than teleportation. Teleportation remains only as a last resort, after checking that the destination is clear. Tolerances are no longer fixed: they adjust to the player's latency and the size of the object.
For now, the change only applies to loose objects. Ships and vehicles remain on the old system. The feature is controlled by a CVAR, and CIG plans to keep it enabled in testing unless a major problem arises.
VR: StereoZoom 2.0 and Freed Positional Tracking
The build bundles several experimental VR updates:
- StereoZoom 2.0: a redesigned zoom that triggers when the headset's aim lines up with the target, with new customization CVars;
- the zoom now aligns correctly with the scope when aiming down sights on the ground, with a decoupled aim direction;
- positional tracking is no longer locked during zoom, which noticeably improves the feel of ground aiming, according to the notes;
- mouse smoothing and acceleration no longer reset to zero when switching to VR;
- wearing the headset counts as user activity, so players who watch without touching their controls are no longer kicked for inactivity;
- invisible 3D interface icons have been fixed.
Notable Fixes
CIG fixes a client crash related to an entity component, and lists six other potential fixes:
- some ships were taking heavy, even fatal, collision damage because of a player-carried weapon's magazine when exiting a seat;
- Heavy Combat Hunter 3 helmets, all variants, were not applying the hood or the neck guard;
- the Scavenger Hunt event contract displayed no drop-off marker, leaving players without a delivery destination;
- some ship components showed no manufacturer logo in the inventory and equipment screens;
- the Hyaoklo meditation focus displayed the name "Ochelo" instead of its correct name;
- the descriptions of event salvage contracts confirm that players can keep any RMC recovered during the contract.
Context
This build extends a PTU 4.10.2 that is advancing in stages. On October 4, the Alpha opened to all testers, with ship rentals offered as contract rewards in the Stanton event. On October 5, dataminers noted a marked drop in rewards for several UCM salvage contracts on the PTU. Creator Cpt_Foxyloxy dedicated a test session to a change in the event's salvage missions.
What's Next
The VR features are still labeled experimental, and ships and vehicles remain on the old network system for now. An update and a roadmap Roundup have also been announced for Wednesday.
